Overview

Is this the third or perhaps the fourth bloody massacre for power? I cannot recall; I shall have to refresh my memory by re-reading the chronicles once the blood has dried.

The Nilhirim Alliance is a complex, rusted mechanism that has remained practically untuned for these long centuries. The very prefix “Alliance” fulfilled its purpose only a single time—at its inception. All subsequent eras have been nothing but continuous battles amongst themselves.

Geographically, Nilhirim is a peninsula divided by the Senjo River into two irreconcilable halves: North Nilhirim and South Nilhirim.

Currently, the land is in a state of sanguinary civil war.

Other factions remain poised on the knife’s edge:

  • The Shou Dao Clan has taken a neutral side, supporting only the Monastic Court (fanatics of the Shinri teachings) and seeking no claim to the secular throne.
  • The powerful Kaishin Clan refused to support the Head of the Alliance but has not yet commenced decisive action against Kitakuma, fearing an attack from the Jue Duan Clan, which is currently negotiating with the Ming.

Many commoners flee to the swamps, where the Clan of Enmyaku “rules,” trying not to get too involved in the current slaughter for the throne, or to the north, closer to the Vekster Mountains. The more “golden” residents of the peninsula stand in endless queues for any boat, however small, capable of crossing the sea and landing them on the shores of Mangfold.

The Southern Schism

The Southern kingdoms managed to maintain the status of an alliance for a time, as their opinion against the Kitakuma clan coincided perfectly: specifically, regarding his exhaustingly long and soft—like an old grandmother’s—rule.

Attempts to mend relations with the Kingdom of Tilhengor by building an “Impossible Bridge” across the Synken River at the expense of the peninsula’s kingdoms became the final mistake Kitakuma Kazuma managed to make before he was justifiably treacherously lulled to sleep in a warm, cozy fire.

It was just

He atoned for his sins before the God for his weakness.

» Yeah, right, and he also warmed his comrades with his soul, ha-ha-ha »

But the Southern Alliance did not last long either. By 3798, when the Kingdom of Gwen realized that its “friends forever”—Felsen and Litein—would simply not let it lead the alliance thanks to a collusive majority, it abandoned the coalition.

The Fall of Havstir

Taking advantage of the weakened garrison forces in the Havstir Colony, the Havstirs raised a rebellion. They declared independence and began zealously exterminating all those “vile peninsula dwellers” who had not yet managed to board a transport ship.

Bloody Mess

Intoxicated by freedom and hatred for those who had enslaved them, they spared no one: everything was used as a weapon—everyone was gutted, women and children alike.

Havstir itself is now led by the descendant of the zoomorph who raised a rebellion long ago in Dekhrai-Niki CastleSonar Folid.
