Overview

A castle that belonged to the glorious Triad. A fortification that survived a multitude of attacks, repelling every single one of them, was taken during the very first assault by the Franor Empire. And it took a laughable two days. Anyone could have lost a stronghold so ineptly—a drunken garrison, corrupt mercenaries—but certainly not the Triad. This event does not fit into the mind of any military strategist. The walls were not breached, the gates were not smashed. The castle simply… changed flags.

A-a-ah… “Triple Peak,” also known as Tricelong — a castle of the Yuan-Se era. It is impossible to take it in two days. Stone laid by the Ancients can crack, of course, but certainly not from those pathetic toothpicks you ignoramuses call catapults. It smells not of siege dust here, but of something that made the garrison forget how to hold swords.

It was a Castle of the Yuan-Se era, a miracle that partially survived into the Dark Times, carefully restored by the Vaelverians and shamefully lost by the Udenisians. The Franorians, in their barbaric triumph, immediately renamed it. The noble name in the Raedal language — Fortuori Castle — was erased, and a rough, barking name appeared on the maps — Fottrinn. Now this castle is neither a home nor a fortress. It is a beachhead. There are fewer civilians in the area than rats in a hold. There are no plowmen here, only quartermasters and cutthroats. Eternal special operations to probe vulnerable spots, sabotage, diversions, and plans for night raids—all these poisonous streams originate in the captain’s halls of Fottrinn.

**Intoxicated by the stunning and suspiciously easy success, the Franor Empire did not hesitate to go further. They decided that luck was now their eternal concubine and moved their troops to wipe the troublesome obstacle on the path to domination off the face of the earth — Unbastis Castle. But the same “trick” didn’t work twice. Whatever opened the gates of Fottrinn for them in two days failed at the walls of Unbastis. The initiative troops were crushed instantly and brutally. They didn’t even manage to fully cross the River Lewang. The waters of the river turned crimson, carrying the bodies of those who believed in their invulnerability straight into the cold embrace of death. The defenders of Unbastis were not waiting for a miracle—they were waiting for the enemy. And they got him.
