Overview

Fools believe the history of these walls began with the arrival of the Franor Empire or the Northern Clans. Even greater fools look for traces of Vaelvere or Yuan-Se here. But the truth is far more terrifying and ancient. This castle stood here, biting into the rock, long before the very concept of “Planets” made sense. Look at the masonry. This is not primitive work with hammer and chisel. This is surgery on stone. Cuts for what we would now call runic engineering are visible everywhere. Empty eye sockets gape in the walls—indentations of precise size, perfectly suited for Mazurite crystals. Now they are empty. Whatever was there—fixators, accumulators, or keys—was barbarically torn out or stolen millennia ago. Text is barely discernible on the surviving slabs. It is not a modern language, nor even Old Imperial. It is distorted, archaic Einheric.

Shadows of Forgotten Empires: All clues scream one thing: this monolith was erected by dominant Northern empires before or during the Xetetes era. The architecture narrows the list of suspects to two giants of the past:

  1. The Alrsyns — insatiable expansionists, the first migrants from the northern continent who landed on Mangfold in the Xetetes era. They consumed lands with the greed of locusts, reaching the very River Delin, whose deadly current became the only barrier to their ambitions.
  2. The Hvirdrs — their descendants, an empire that arose on the ruins of the Alrsyn hegemony in the Eredeia era.

Era of Oblivion: Nevertheless, time spares no one. The castle survived into the bleakest of times, turning into a patchwork quilt of history. Scars from the intervention of a dozen eras are visible on its walls: rough patches, traces of sieges, clumsy restoration. Starting from the 2800s by the Vaelverian calendar, this fortress was forgotten by gods and men. It stood empty, swept by winds, needed by no one in this wilderness.

New Masters: The silence was broken only in 3701. The Blonds—northern humans bringing steel and hatred—stepped onto these lands. They staged a mass genocide, burning out with fire the tribes of zoomorphs that had huddled in the shadow of the ancient ruins for centuries. Upon the blood of beastfolk, House Bragge entered the castle. They declared these ancient stones their property, not even suspecting whose shadows watch them from the empty sockets of the Mazurite slots.
